The biology
Muse cells are identified by a surface marker, SSEA-3, and make up roughly one to a few per cent of an ordinary mesenchymal culture. They are not engineered — they are already present, and rare.
Three properties define them in the preclinical literature. They navigate toward injured tissue by following a chemical gradient rather than arriving passively. At the injury site they engulf apoptotic debris, and that uptake directs what they differentiate into. And they express HLA-G, which has allowed allogeneic administration without tissue matching or immunosuppression across the published trials.
Six early-phase trials have been published, enrolling roughly sixty-seven patients in total. One was randomised and placebo-controlled — a stroke study reporting 40% of treated patients reaching functional independence at twelve weeks against 10% on placebo. No indication has reached Phase 3.
The limitation that matters most
No trial has ever compared a Muse preparation head to head against standard mesenchymal therapy, for any condition. Every claim of relative advantage is an inference from mechanism and animal models, not a demonstrated clinical result.
Supply
Because Muse cells are defined by a marker rather than a source tissue, the only meaningful description of a preparation is its measured SSEA-3-positive fraction. An unsorted culture and an enriched product can carry the same label and differ by an order of magnitude.

In development
Further biotechnology programmes are in development. We will describe them when there is something specific to describe — a specification, a measurement, a result. Until then there is nothing here worth reading, and we would rather leave the section short than fill it.
